The red-hot world of basketball is filled with competitive players who are willing to do anything to win. These guys will go to any length to get their team a win. A player who is willing to resort to violence and fireballs in order to get his team the victory is a rare breed indeed, but that’s exactly what Tristan Thompson did during Game 5 of the NBA Finals on Monday. Thompson, a Celtics forward, was caught on camera using an expletive-laden rant against the Cavaliers’ bench in which he calls them “dogs” and “stains on [his] The video goes viral almost instantly, just as Thompson expected it would. Within minutes of being posted online, #FireThompson had become one of the most talked about and widely disliked sports stories of the year. Thompson has since apologized for his behavior, saying it was “unacceptable and inappropriate”. But will he be able to live with himself after seeing his conduct come back to haunt him? I spoke with several former NBA players as well as former coaches and executives about whether or not Thompson should be considered for reinstatement (punishment following dismissal), a chance at future employment in professional sports or even an alternative career path altogether.
